I've told Jun we are really too old to consider adopting another child. She has apparently been thinking about this for some time. Today's conversation went like this:
Jun: Mom, you really aren't very old. Why don't we find someone who has lots of children anyway and who is going to have a baby and you can talk to me and we can get the baby and I'll have a brother or sister.
Mom: (What could I say? I laughed!)
A few minutes later Jun asked: Mama, are you in the "three numbers?" Are you over 100 yet?
Mom: (I laughed again!)

Pretend Sibling
Every once in a while we get to babysit a friend of ours. And then it is me or me and Ryu with two kids. A little girl and a little boy. And my heart melts.
This afternoon we got to have the little boy for a few hours including dinner. He is six months younger than Jun, so, not really like a little brother, but we pretend!
Ahhhh. And Ryu says, "no more!" And I am very happy and content, but...
Then the little boy's Mama comes to get him and he becomes his "real" self - tired and grumpy.
And then, I'm once again glad to be a Mama of one. I have to say, God knows what he is doing!

Only One
I have been racking my brain to try to remember what the politically correct term is for an Only Child. Other than Angel, Princess, Treasure, etc. If it is "single child", if you have two, is it "double child"? Doesn't sound right. "Singleton" doesn't sound right either. Again "doubleton" just sounds strange. "Only child". Well, it will have to work for now.
Our Angel has turned into our Princess and she is and will be, as far as we can imagine, an Only Treasured Child. This is a growing trend here in Japan. For various reasons which are probably not too far from those in the States. Time, money - or the lack of thereof, age - or the abundance thereof, etc.
A dear friend who just moved nearby was also blessed to become a Mother through the grace of God! Once. So we are challenged to raise our little Onlies in an environment that teaches sharing, looking out for little ones, not destroying other's creations, and all the things that come naturally - I guess - if you have more than One.
We went over for tea this afternoon and "big brother" practice for her son. And, "don't destroy big brother's train track" practice for our daughter.
I am so thankful that lots of Only Ones adds up to many blessings.
