Travel in the Big City

We spent five nights in Portland, OR for our vacation. More on the wonderful things we did on vacation later, but...the DRIVING! Drivers in Portland are CRAZY!

Now, if I had said this last year, you would think...yeah, you just got back from Japan and think that driving in ANY small town or on ANY freeway is dangerous!...and you would have been correct. However, I will have you know that I no longer drive local roads and freeways and cities in fear for my life! I have noticed how RELAXED I now am in driving around this area.

Then we went to Portland. Suffice it to say, the driving was VERY stressful! We prayed every day for safety and needed divine safety ALWAYS! Ryu, who worked so hard to get his Idaho driver's license said, after yet another close call, "All of these people have studied to pass and HAVE passed their driver's tests...however NO ONE knows the traffic laws!" To be 100% honest, I DID think - to have SO MANY close calls in such a short amount of time, maybe the problem really IS ME!?!?!? But, really! I don't think so. I was so so glad to get back to my part of the world...at least for the ease in driving. The heat? That's another story!

Imodessying Police

We took a VACATION! And our hotel had a POOL! And I was going to swim for the first time this summer. I took out my swimming suit:

Jun: Mama, is that swimming suit going to fit you? It looks awfully small.
Me: Yes, Jun. Swimming suits stretch to fit you and I HAVEN'T gained any weight! It will be fine!
Jun: Mama, that swimming suit is a little imodessying.
Me: Immodest? The neckline is as high as a swimming suit can go!
Jun: Mama, it shows your back ALL THE WAY down to your BOTTOM!
Me: Jun, that's the way swimming suits are MADE!
Jun: MY swimming suit doesn't show MY BACK!

Well, after swimming, I looked in the mirror. Most of the elastic seems to have deteriorated and the fabric in the front...it's on its way to being imodessying! LOL!

So, since we were in a CITY that has no SALE'S TAX, I went shopping for a swim suit. I took the Imodessying Police with me. Much to my surprise, there was a suit she approved of! LOL! Of course we were too busy to swim after that! Hope I stay the same size for next summer!!!

The Plan

Well, this is THE week. We need to be in our new house on Thursday. This means that:
  1. We need to pack up this house. So, you ask, why am I wasting time writing a post. Good question. I'm a practiced procrastinator.
  2. We need electricity to the cooking stove in the new house - Go Dad, Go!
  3. We need to finish some of the walls in the bathroom and put the cabinets up in the kitchen so...
  4. the plumber can come finish putting the sinks in.
  5. We will finish the floor in only the "master" bedroom this week, and move in there.
  6. Then we will put the rest of our stuff in a storage shed.
  7. Then we will clean up this house.
  8. Then we will take Ryu to the airport for his 2 week trip to Japan. Someone (me) made him a ticket reservation with a departure time of 5:30 am. Roads should be clear, at least!
  9. Then Jun and I will commute to our church in this town to attend Vacation Bible School.
  10. My Mom and Dad will go home and mow their own lawn, look out their own windows (which are clean), sit on their own chairs, eat their own food, and REST!
  11. Jun and I will camp for a week or so in the new house and REST!
  12. Oh, and I'm on church bulletin duty this summer. Obviously something I committed to before knowing we were going to be MOVING and going crazy. Oh well!
  13. Aaaaand, I have an interview at the local Community College for an ESL class this summer. We'll see!

So, anyway, that is The Plan. I so so hope it works out! I'm looking forward to the REST!
